People often travel to New York City with the intention of spending most of their time in Manhattan. What they don’t know is that Queens is one of the most underrated boroughs of New York City and is just around the corner, waiting to be explored! Here are a few reasons you should visit Queens.

If you enjoy trying new foods and experiencing new cultures, Queens is the place for you. It’s one of the most diverse locations in the United States and has the food to prove it. Korean, Brazilian, Mexican, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Egyptian, Tibetan, and Peruvian foods are just some of the many options that are found throughout Queens. The Chinatown in Flushing has even become larger than the Chinatown in Manhattan! So many cultures are represented in Queens and they are continuing to grow.
Queens is home to several famous museums, some of them being the Museum of the Moving Image, the PS1 Contemporary Art Center, the New York Hall of Science, and the Queens Museum of Art. So whatever your interests may be, chances are that Queens has a museum that you’ll love. Visitors of all ages can appreciate these museums and the culture of Queens that they represent. If you prefer more sporty activities, don’t worry – the New York Mets Citi Field is found in Queens. Head on over for a ball game and watch the Home Run Apple rise when the Mets hit a home run! You can also watch the NYC Marathon in Queens and cheer on the runners as they reach their halfway point. Queens also houses the US Open acrylic hard courts, so you can watch a good game of tennis while you’re there.
Most people immediately think of Central Park when anyone talks about strolling through a park in New York. Central Park is great, but Queens has over 20 different parks to be walked through. They are all very beautiful and much quieter than any park in Manhattan because Queens is so much less crowded. You are guaranteed a nice and relaxing afternoon if you stroll through any of these parks. The Jamaica Bay Park is one of the only wildlife refuges in all of the national parks and more than 325 species of birds have been spotted there. Head on over to see some beautiful birds taking a break on their migration journey.
While Manhattan is certainly exciting and unique, it is also very expensive.
