Like most major cities in Western Europe, Rome can be an expensive place and that especially rings true for accommodation. However, if you know where to look then you can find some great budget hotels, here are our top five.

Hotel de Monti

For a budget hotel the de Monti is in a fantastic location. Near the centre of Rome, it is only a short walk away from the Coliseum, while there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. But it still retains the charm of a hidden gem and has a great sense of authenticity.

The breakfast of your choice will be brought up to your room at the time of your choosing, while a concierge service runs from 1pm – 9pm for you to seek advice on what you shouldn’t miss during your visit. There’s also free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and spacious rooms.

The Beehive

If you’re an eco-conscious individual, then you might find there’s nowhere better to stay in Rome than The Beehive. With organic breakfasts, handmade soap and all-natural cleaning products – it offers a fantastic service in an environmentally-friendly way.

There is a relaxing lounge for you to unwind and put your feet up. Delve into a good book, listen to some music or take advantage of our guest iPad. You can even get some fresh air outside in their lovely garden – with a glass of wine in hand.

Althea Inn

If you’re looking for something outside of the general tourist areas, then the Althea Inn would be an excellent choice. Testaccio also happens to be a good spot for restaurants, while it is generally a much quieter neighbourhood than the city centre.

For a budget hotel, there are a lot of perks that come with staying in this particular establishment. You get a good-standard flat screen TV (with BBC), free Wi-Fi and a private terrace in every room – perfect for enjoying an evening drink with your significant other.

Caputmundi

Another hotel located right in the centre of Rome, you’ll be surprised to find such an accommodating place for such a good price. Rooms have TV with satellite, air conditioning, a telephone and a private bathroom, while reception is open 24 hours should you have any further needs.

They describe themselves as being one of the largest b&bs in central Rome. The building itself is located inside an old palace, and is just a 15 minute walk away from the truly magnificent sight that is the Coliseum. Or, if you prefer, the Metro is right there available to take you the short distance to the Vatican.

Daphne Inn

With two separate locations (albeit ones that are close by), the Daphne Inn offers its guests plenty of room options. They have accommodation suitable for one person all the way up to seven individuals, making this an ideal hotel for those travelling in large groups.

The great thing about it is that the owners, from Rome and Florida respectively, are determined to ensure you have a good time. Their concierge service will give you detailed advice on what you can do while you’re in the city – whether it’s just a weekend break or a longer stay, they want you to be tempted back again.
