In December 2011, the Canadian federal government introduced the Super Visa. This program allow parents and grand parents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit there families in Canada for a 2 year period without having to renew there status.
The eligibility to this program does depend on the other on selects criteria, notably; the person’s ties to there home country, the purpose of the visit, the financial situation of the person and there family, the overall economic and political stability of the person’s home country as well as an invitation from the Canadian host family member
One notable factor that was not previously mentioned is the fact that in order to get accepted for the Super Visa the applicant must provide proof of private health insurance coverage. There are several option on the other hand when it comes to private health insurance coverage inOntario. Permanent residents and citizens are covered by OHIP and may choose private coverage to cover all that is missed by the public health insurance program. Visitors to the province have different option when it comes to health insurance, they would not have access to our public health system and thus would be looking for coverage for the entire gambit of health insurance. This health insurance is available with 2 strictly different travel insurance products. There is the “Visitors to Canada” travel insurance and the “SuperVisa” travel insurance plan. So what is the difference.
The major difference between these 2 different insurance products is the fact that the issuance of the SuperVisa travel insurance is contingent on the acceptance of the applicant visa application. This signifies that all premiums may be returned to the prospective insured in the event that there visa application get declined post application for thereSuperVisa travel insurance. This is not the case with visitors to Canada travel insurance. The visitors to Canada insurance is always considered a stand alone product and is not affected by the status of any visas.
One fact that is worth mentioning is that this health insurance is considered travel insurance by our insurance providers in the province of Ontario. That being said, payment plans are unfortunately not offered on travel insurance. This product may only be paid as a one pay prior to being insured. This applies with every carrier of this insurance.
